CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- Police in Carbondale responded to a possible arson incident on November 4 at 11:19 p.m. on the 300 block of West Cherry Street. Officers said they found a piece of furniture on fire, with flames spreading to a nearby house.

Police said there was a family inside, including several small children, but all got out safely. The Carbondale Fire Department extinguished the fire, and no injuries were reported.

Police then arrested Jory Brown, 30 of Carbondale. Brown was cited with aggravated arson and was taken to the Jackson County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities encourage anyone with information to contact the police department.
