SPRINGERVILLE, Ariz. — The mayor of a rural Arizona town that was the subject of a 12News investigation into police misconduct has resigned.

Shelly Reidhead resigned as Mayor of the town of Springerville “effective immediately," interim town manager Ted Soltis confirmed to 12News Wednesday afternoon.

Soltis did not offer any details, and the town has not issued any other comment.

Reidhead had been facing a recall over her handling of the Round Valley Police Department, which serves the towns of Springerville and Eagar, but is managed by Springerville.

According to recall organizers, they had obtained the necessary number of signatures to force a recall of the mayor last week.
