Henley might have had the most trying first month of the season of any Class 4A team.
The Hornets were supposed to open the season on the road at Lakeview, but a couple of days before the game, the Honkers — a 3A program that had 10 freshmen and seven sophomores among its 26 players — called to cancel the game.
On such short notice, Henley couldn’t find a replacement, meaning it was the last team in the state to begin its season in Week 2, beating defending champion Marist Catholic in a rematch of last year’s state final.
