NEW YORK (WABC) -- Election analysts say Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani's win signals a generational change - a majority of younger, educated people voted for him. He also picked up some new support in areas that were skewing for President Donald Trump last year.

A record number of people voted in the mayoral election, more than 2 million residents. How many of those voters cast their ballots has changed since the presidential election.

In 2024, President Trump caused more of New York City to go red in areas that have been democratic strongholds.

As for the mayoral election, while Cuomo did well in areas like Staten Island, Crown Heights and the Upper East Side, Mamdani had big wins in most other areas.
