OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - For the first time in its more than 170-year history, voters in Council Bluffs elected a woman to lead the city.
Jill Shudak won a close race to unseat Mayor Matt Walsh, becoming the first woman elected by voters to serve as mayor of Council Bluffs.

“The times have changed, the future is that women are out working just as hard, if not harder than the men in the community, and to me it’s great strides that the community like Council Bluffs, has chosen to elect a female over an incumbent male,” Shudak said.
Walsh, who spent more than three decades serving as council member and mayor, acknowledged the electoral shift.
