ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

New Mexico State Police have arrested a man in Illinois who was wanted for a homicide.

On November 4, around 5 p.m., a New Mexico State Police Officer was patrolling in Quay County when he was alerted by NMSP dispatch of a license plate reader (LPR) hit. The alert indicated a vehicle traveling westbound on Interstate 40 near milepost 342.

According to police, the vehicle was connected to an ongoing homicide conducted by the Cicero Police Department in Illinois.

Once the New Mexico State Police Officer located the vehicle, they conducted a felony traffic stop on I-40 near milepost 345. The vehicle was occupied by two males with one being a juvenile. Both males were detained and the driver was identified through a Texas identification card as Naman Alfredo Vasquez.
