The Alberta government is awaiting more details before passing judgment on the federal budget, citing ongoing negotiations with Ottawa over a potential new pipeline.

Prime Minister Mark Carney unveiled his government’s first budget Tuesday afternoon which projects a $78-billion deficit.

The budget documents suggest that use of carbon capture and storage technology, as Alberta has sought, “would create the circumstances whereby the oil and gas emissions cap would no longer be required as it would have marginal value in reducing emissions.”
