PASADENA, Texas — Folks are bracing as the shutdown continues. This food pantry is smack dab in the center of the Windsor Garden apartments. It’s done by design. Giving folks in this community easy access to drive or just walk up for support.

The Empower Community Development Corporation pantry in this apartment complex is open for its Wednesday food distribution. It’s a service that helps keep families like Sandra Washington and her five grandchildren afloat.

“A lot is going through my mind. How are we going to survive and make it? Just continue on?" Washington said.

She’s not alone in that uncertainty. For the last year, Empower CDC employees have heard the stories. It’s what motivates their work to empower the community through outreach and access to resources.
