SHREVEPORT, La. — Would you voluntarily pay more to support the Shreveport Police Department? One city councilman hopes some residents will.
Councilman Grayson Boucher proposed on social media Tuesday a plan that would allow Shreveport residents to voluntarily pay an additional $10 to $20 a month on their water bills. Boucher said if just half of the city’s water customers participated, the program could generate nearly $4 million annually.
He said the extra funds would go toward police salaries, incentives, and other department expenses.
The Shreveport City Council is set to hold its annual budget meeting next week, where Boucher said members will discuss the city’s tight financial situation.
