SHREVEPORT, La. — A Caddo Parish jury convicted Michael Rachal, 23, of second-degree murder Wednesday for the 2022 shooting death of an acquaintance.
Rachal was found guilty in the death of Makaree Samone Rayson, who was killed on Sept. 7, 2022, after she and her mother were attempting to evict him from their home. The five-man, seven-woman jury deliberated for less than 30 minutes before returning the unanimous verdict.
Rayson's sister heard arguing and saw Rachal fleeing the scene. Evidence showed Rayson was struck by gunfire fired at a distance, contradicting Rachal's claim of an accidental self-inflicted wound.
Rachal faces a mandatory life sentence when he returns for sentencing on Nov. 19.
