MOORHEAD — Zach Gabbard is used to motivation. The standout athlete from Perham, Minnesota, who is now a paraprofessional in Moorhead, once turned heads with his talent on the basketball court.

On Wednesday, Nov. 5, he guided the first group of young students at Robert Asp Elementary in Moorhead in a different game — disc golf.

"I think it's just the popularity. People are starting to realize this is really a good sport to do," Gabbard said of disc golf as he introduced the activity into the school's physical education program.

"It is something new, instead of basketball or football," student Griffin Kramer said. "So that we have something else to play if kids don't like those sports."

Gabbard helped fundraise to get the disc golf course at the school. He competes in disc golf tourname
