DALLAS — Between heartbreak and relief, they waited.

“Every phone call could be either the call you don't want or the call you've been waiting for,” said Philip Polk, Myrtle Polk’s son.

After 17 months, Philip got a call that reassured his hope.

“Yesterday is the reason why you never give up hope, because my new normal is any day, anytime something can change my life,” Philip said.

Last June, his mother, 88-year-old Myrtle Polk, was reported missing and was last seen near her home in Oak Cliff on Indian Creek Trail. Tuesday, almost a year and a half later, Dallas Police pulled her car out of Five Mile Creek , just five minutes from her home.

“When I saw that car come out of that water...I don't want to see anything like that again. It was rough,” Philip said.
