LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Amid half a mile of carnage in the fatal UPS plane crash are local businesses that have been destroyed. Dozens of people working in those businesses watched it all unfold.
“It knocked me out of my foot. Then I went outside to see what’s going on,” Sabit Aliyev, owner of Kentucky Truck Parts and Services, said. “I never seen that much of a flame in my life.”
Aliyev’s surveillance video captured the moment of the crash, when UPS Flight 2976 careened into Kentucky Petroleum Recycling. After the crash, repeat explosions intensified a growing fire and billowing smoke.
“It was like a tornado flame,” Aliyev said. “With the sound. It was bad, yes. It was really hot.”
Sabit ran for his life. He told WAVE he and his employees jumped fences, running to a creek near Wast
