ROCKLIN, Calif. —
Republican Kevin Kiley plans to still run for office in Congress, but where is the bigger question after California voters approved new districts that split him from his constituency.
Currently, the Rocklin-area congressman represents the geographically largest district in Northern California, encompassing parts of 10 different counties across the Foothills, Sierra and Eastern Sierra.
But the passage of Proposition 50 allowed California lawmakers to take away the power to redistrict from a voter-approved, citizen-led independent commission for the next three elections. The Democratic-drawn maps remade his large rural voter base into one that includes more liberal voters from Sacramento County.
