CAMP CREEK, WV (WVNS) -- Camping is something that many people enjoy doing here in the mountains of West Virginia.

However, there are some tips you need to know in order to make that winter camping trip as safe and as fun as possible.

Isaiah Tuck, a survivalist, said one of the biggest things to remember involves your clothes.

"You're going to want to wear several different layers. You want to aim for something that's not cotton. In the backpacking world they have the quote that 'cotton kills'. So, you want to wear something that's synthetic or wool, especially for your under layers and wool holds in quite a lot of its heat even when it's wet as opposed to cotton that'll just drain your temperature really quickly," said Tuck.
