A Pune-based couple, working at a private firm, was allegedly defrauded of Rs 14 crore by a woman and her two close aides in the name of divine healing. As per the complaint filed by the couple to the Pune Police, a woman named Vedika Kunal Pandharpurkar approached them and assured them of healing their two ailing daughters, one suffering from alopecia, through spiritual methods.
The complaint further noted that the woman had been possessed by the spirit of Shankar Maharaj, a 19th and 20th-century Indian saint and spiritual leader, and asked for the couple’s permission to perform religious acts to heal their daughters. As the couple gave her permission, she, along with her husband Kunal and her aide Deepak Khadke, asked for a huge sum of money to perform those acts.
