October 8, 1966 Within a year the buildings will start going up at Carlsbad's 18-million dollar Plaza Camino Real shopping center---a development that's hailed as a major step forward for the local economy. 8 giant earth-movers have completed the work of scooping up 2-million yards of earth from hillsides and dumping it in the low spots at the construction site. The center will be located east of Interstate 5 and south of highway 78 near the eastern end of the Buena Vista Lagoon. It all got underway July eleventh when the construction equipment started scraping away at the earth--- working ten hours a day. Completion of the center is expected around August of 1968.
