UFC legend BJ Penn was charged with assault on Tuesday in Hilo, Hawaii, following a physical altercation at a residence, police said.

Penn, 46, was arrested without incident at 11:50 a.m., according to a news release from the Hawaii Police Department. His arrest came more than 10 hours after police responded to a report of an assault at a residence around 1 a.m.

The victim, a 45-year-old male, reported that Penn “punched and kicked him multiple times” before he was able to leave the area and contact police. He later received medical treatment for his injuries at Hilo Benioff Medical Center, police said.

Penn was charged with third-degree assault and was released on $1,000 bail, according to the release. His initial court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 2 in Hilo District Court.
