FAYETTEVILLE -- The City Council addressed concerns surrounding food insecurity and the uncertainty surrounding SNAP benefits in two unanimous votes Tuesday.

Councilman D'Andre Jones walked on a resolution Tuesday to, "express the City Council's request to Governor Sanders to provide food to needy Arkansans if the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program lapses."

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, was set to run out of money this past Saturday.

State attorneys general from 25 states plus the District of Columbia sued to force the government to tap about $5 billion in contingency funds to keep the program going for at least a few weeks. Federal judges in Rhode Island and Massachusetts ruled in the states' favor on Friday.
