IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - Eastern Iowa teams dominated the state volleyball tournament semifinals, with top-seeded Denver advancing to defend its 2A championship and Janesville returning to the 1A title game.
Denver (48-1) defeated Grundy Center 3-1 in the 2A semifinal despite an early scare from the Spartans.
“They don’t get rattled. I saw the nerves a tiny bit, but not to the point that they were getting rattled,” said Denver head coach Jamie Johnson.
Senior setter Channing Johnson credited last year’s championship experience.
“Having three games under our belt last year, and coming back and playing one and then two tonight, I think it really helped us get more comfortable with the surroundings and fight through the tough battle that Grundy Center put up tonight,” Johnson said.
