OPELOUSAS, La. (KALB) - Louisiana State Police Troop I reported a crash in St. Landry Parish killed Sonya McClendon, 52, of Opelousas on November 5.

Troopers said they responded to the scene of a fatal two-vehicle crash on Hwy 754, near Jessie Richard Road at around 7 a.m. on Wednesday.

From their investigation, troopers determined that McClendon was driving west on Hwy 754 when, for unknown reasons, her vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane and struck an F-150 head on.

Troopers said McClendon was not wearing a seatbelt, was fatally injured and died at the scene. The other driver was wearing a seatbelt, was moderately injured and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

LSP said they collected toxicology samples for analysis and their investigation is ongoing.
