Mesa County Valley School District 51 is considering shifting boundaries to address an enrollment imbalance between Grand Junction and Central high schools.

In a letter to GJHS, Central, Orchard Mesa Middle School and Bookcliff Middle School families, the district said it was hoping to make the “best use of available space and resources” through potential boundary changes that would go into effect for the 2026-2027 school year.

The district said the proposed areas that could be affected include:

Neighborhoods between I-70 Business Loop and the Colorado River, from 28 Road to 30 Road. This includes parts of the Pear Park and Chipeta Elementary attendance areas;

The area south of the Colorado River and north of Unaweep Avenue, between 28 Road and 28½ Road. This covers the western portion
