Assam Chief Information Commissioner Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta has resigned after he received multiple RTI applications with regards to his brother, Shyamkanu Mahanta. Mahanta had organised the music festival at which late singer Zubeen Garg had to perform.
CIC Mahanta quit as per the recommendation of state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, which cited a "clash of interest’, NDTV reported. The CIC's brother has already been arrested in the case.
Singer Zubeen Garg was found dead in Singapore waters on September 19, just a day before his scheduled concert. Authorities have since arrested seven people in connection with his death, among them prominent Assamese entrepreneur Shyamkanu Mahanta.
