GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – The Better Business Bureau is putting people on high alert about a new wave of phishing scams.

Upstate Better Business Bureau President Hunter Jones told 7NEWS bad actors are posing as process servers to get sensitive information. Process servers are people like law enforcement who can serve writs, warrants or subpoenas to collect a debt.

Jones said in some cases, scammers may already have some of the personal information of potential victims from a data leak, such as the last four digits of a social security number. Jones said the goal of scammers is to trick people into verifying the rest of their information with them.
