Zohran Mamdani’s victory in New York City’s mayoral race marks a new chapter in the city’s political history. At just 34, he becomes the youngest mayor since 1892 and notably, the first Muslim and first African-born leader of the city.

But while his ascent to City Hall has been described as a triumph of representation and progressive politics, Mamdani is constitutionally barred from ever running for US President.
