A Volusia County mental health organization is getting ready to fulfill Maddie's mission and strike out the stigma.
Youth Emotional Support (YES) makes sure sure no one walks alone. YES helps cover the cost of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) trainings for therapists in Florida.
The Meeske family started the nonprofit in 2019, alongside their daughter, Maddie.
Rose Meeske said in middle and high school, Maddie struggled silently with borderline personality disorder.
At that time, Maddie and her mom talked about how hard this challenge must be for other people.
So they started putting together hundreds of these wellness bags filled with self-care goodies.
"Journals, there's water bottles, there's sleep masks, there's fuzzy socks. It has all the good stuff in it," Rose Meeske said.
