With SNAP benefits delayed, nonprofit owner tosses free pizzas to people in need

MERRILLVILLE — The smell of melted cheese, crispy dough and a sizzling oven wafted from the open garage door of a Merrillville house Wednesday evening, attracting people from all over Northwest Indiana who needed a meal — or who just wanted to see what was going on.
