Cracks are forming in the relationship between Surrey and Metro Vancouver as the city’s mayor and at least one opposition councillor call for changes.
Metro serves as the main forum for municipalities in the region to discuss community issues, manage some services like water and sewage, and plan for the future.
“Metro Vancouver is important. It’s valuable, and it needs to be maintained,” Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke said.

Water for the city, as with all Metro municipalities, is provided by the region. Surrey’s sewer system is also regional and linked with Langley, Delta and Richmond, making up the Annacis region.
Locke thinks Metro should stick to these types of basics instead of getting involved in other ventures.
