ASHEVILLE, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Asheville Police Department said a man been charged with child sex crimes following a joint investigation with the FBI.
According to the department, police responded to a report of a sexual assault of a juvenile around 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 8. After investigating, 40-year-old Shayrone Renard Thompson was arrested on Nov. 4.
Thompson was charged with the following:
Human trafficking child victim
Statutory rape of child by an adult
Statutory sexual offense of a child by an adult
Sexual activity by a substitute parent or custodian
Indecent liberties with a child
Assault by pointing a gun
Officials said Thompson was booked into the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office under no bond.
The investigation is ongoing, and more charges may be forthcoming.
