ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) -- A man has been charged with felony human trafficking of a child following a joint investigation by the Asheville Police Department and the FBI.

According to police, Shayrone Renard Thompson was arrested on Tuesday after a thorough investigation into the sexual assault of a juvenile, which began on October 8th.

The investigation involved the Asheville Police Department, the FBI, Mission Hospital's Child Advocacy Center and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Officers said Thompson faces multiple charges, including felony human trafficking of a child victim, statutory rape of a child by an adult, statutory sexual offense of a child by an adult, sexual activity by a substitute parent or custodian, indecent liberties with a child and assault
