TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa International Airport (TPA) is closely monitoring a directive from the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that could lead to a 10 percent reduction in air traffic across 40 high-volume markets nationwide.
The restrictions are a safety measure reportedly related to staffing pressures among air traffic controllers amid the ongoing government shutdown.
TPA, which ranks as the 27th-largest airport in the U.S. and handles approximately 600 daily flights, has not yet received official confirmation on whether it will be included on the list of affected facilities.
