EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Evansville native and baseball great Don Mattingly has made another major decision in his career.
Despite helping the Blue Jays make it to the World Series, Mattingly says he won’t be returning to the organization in 2026.
Officials announced his decision through the Mattingly Charities website Thursday afternoon.
While he won’t be returning to Toronto, he says this is not retirement.
“He is unsure of his immediate baseball future but definitely wants to remain in the game he loves so much,” says a spokesperson in a statement.
Officials say Mattingly has recently expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Blue Jays President & CEO Mark Shapiro and General Manager Ross Atkins for the opportunity to join the Blue Jays as bench coach.
