PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WTVM) - A former football star has died at age 71 on Thursday morning, according to the family.
Woodrow Lowe is the brother of Phenix City Mayor Eddie Lowe.
Lowe began his standout football career at Central High School. After high school, Lowe continued his legacy at the University of Alabama where he played under Coach Bear Bryant from 1972 to 1975.
Lowe was also named a three-time All-American at the University of Alabama.
Lowe was drafted in the 5th round to the San Diego Chargers in the 1976 NFL draft. He was linebacker from 1976 to 1986.
Lowe died in Memphis, Tennessee, after suffering from recent health issues.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been released.
