KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Federal Aviation Administration has released a list of airports that will be operating at a reduced capacity to maintain air safety amid the ongoing government shutdown. Although Knoxville's McGhee Tyson Airport is not on that list, some of the destinations the airport has flights to are.
On Wednesday, the FAA said it would be reducing air traffic by 10% across 40 "high-volume" markets. Because of the cuts, which will go into effect Friday, experts are predicting hundreds if not thousands of flights could be canceled.
McGhee Tyson advertises nonstop flights to more than 35 airports, although that list includes locations with flights on Southwest that will not begin until March 2026. The list of the locations which currently have flight service from McGhee Ty
