NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will be conducting chronic waste disease (CWD) sampling in white-tailed deer across the state starting on the first day of muzzleloader season.
CWD is a “contagious and fatal neurological disease affecting deer,” according to the TWRA.
The TWRA said CWD has been detected in 18 counties in West Tennessee and in Lewis County in Middle Tennessee. You can find a full list of counties where CWD has been detected on the TWRA’s website.
Hunters participating in muzzleloader season on opening day, Nov. 8, are asked to bring their harvested deer to designated sampling stations, so the testing can be done.
