Members of Parliament will have their first chance to cast a budget-related vote on Thursday.
The vote will be on a Conservative sub-amendment to a Bloc Québécois amendment to the budget bill. MPs will vote on the Bloc amendment itself on Friday.
A spokesperson for Liberal House leader Steven MacKinnon told CBC News that the government considers both votes matters of confidence.
If the government loses a confidence vote, that typically triggers a federal election.
However, tonight’s first vote is expected to go the government’s way. Interim NDP Leader Don Davies said all seven New Democrat MPs will vote against the Conservative sub-amendment.
