An Arizona man who pleaded guilty to murder charges after leaving his two-year-old daughter to die in a sweltering car for hours has been found dead.

Christopher Scholtes, 38, was found by police in his home early Wednesday — hours before he was scheduled to turn himself in ahead of his Nov. 21 sentencing, Pima County Attorney Laura Conover announced at a press conference, per People .

Online records for the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s office confirm Scholtes’ death.

He leaves behind his wife and two other children.
