HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - At the Facing Hunger Foodbank, people were hard at work preparing for the arrival of the West Virginia National Guard.
Driver Lee Young said that since SNAP benefits came to a halt on Nov. 1, the food bank has seen the effects.
Typically, they feed around 250 families a day through mobile distributions.
In the last week in a half, that number has increased to 800 families.
“A lot of people in West Virginia and the Tri-State area are taking a big hit on the situation,” Young said. “We are here for everyone who needs assistance, like we always have been. The demand now is a lot more.”
Gov. Patrick Morrisey authorized the deployment of the National Guard to assist food banks in the state.
