The residents of Solomon and Herington both approved a sales tax for their respective cities during the Tuesday, Nov. 4 General Election.

In a 138 to 123 vote, Herington will levy a 1% sales tax to fund street projects, repairing sidewalks and other capital improvement projects.

Herington’s sales tax will begin May 1, 2026, and end April 30, 2036.

Solomon also will levy a 1% sales tax to repair and enlarge the city’s water utility system.

This tax will begin April 1, 2026. The tax will end in March 31, 2066, or the city finishes paying off the projects and loans for the water system, whichever happens first.

Several cities in Dickinson County had city council votes and a couple of sales tax questions.
