GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - WPS and law enforcement say they have seen a dramatic increase in utility scams in recent days.
Jenny Devriend is a customer service representative answering calls about these scams all week, and she saved one customer from losing almost $5,000.
On Wednesday morning, the customer called WPS as she was inside the bank and ready to pay, asking if the information she was told was actually from them.
“They try to make it seem like it’s very urgent, that they give us a call, and that they need to make a payment within a certain amount of time. This customer was told they were going to be disconnected at 12:35. So there was a sense of urgency,” says Devriend.
Devriend is happy she was able to help just moments before the customer almost lost a large amount of money
