HOBOKEN, N.J. (PIX11) — One of the largest healthcare networks in the Tri-state region is closing more than 80 of its medical offices, and patients and staff alike said that the decision took them by surprise and came with little explanation.
Optum Healthcare has said that the closure is part of its "commitment to making healthcare more affordable," but many of the people it serves and employs said they're skeptical about what's happened, and are emotional about its effects.
Outside of Optum's pediatrics office on Hudson Street here, six-year-old Logan Hidalgo's mother let PIX11 News ask him how he felt about the practice he's gone to for his entire life, closing its doors forever. All the first grader could do was weep.
