LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - The city is moving forward with the demolition of an abandoned apartment complex in Lake Charles.

Since Hurricane Laura, Place Vendome Apartments have sat abandoned, serving as the location for numerous fires. The apartments are located at 1900 Prejean Drive.

Since then, many nearby residents expressed their concern about safety hazards and any potential redevelopment of the apartments.

On Thursday, the Lake Charles City Council approved demolishing the abandoned complex.
