The City of Stirling is considering spending $100,000 to help clean up properties affected by severe hoarding and squalor.
City officers are recommending the council consider a $100,000 mid-year budget allocation to boost its ability to respond to extreme cases after a review of how the city manages residential hoarding.
City officers believe dedicated funding for property clean-ups would greatly improve their ability to respond to such cases, as no funding is currently allocated to address the issue.
While the City of Stirling currently does not proactively search for hoarder properties or undertake surveillance of properties where there is no reasonable evidence of hoarding behaviour, it responds to referrals and complaints from residents and external agencies.
