ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - For the first time in 16 years, the price to visit a Georgia state park is going up. But some lawmakers say one group shouldn’t have to pay more: Veterans.
At Sweetwater Creek State Park in Lithia Springs, trails wind through the woods, offering a peaceful escape for hikers, bikers and anglers who come to reset. For Marine veteran Caroline Cane, those moments outdoors are more than recreation.
“Just sitting by the river and seeing the fall colors reflect in the water, feeling the sun on your face, and I saw an armadillo!” Cane said.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources recently voted to double state park parking fees. Even with veteran discounts, Cane says the extra $12 could make a difference.
