SMITHVILLE, Mo. -- Smithville police say stolen park equipment is a problem across the Kansas City metro area. But their detectives recovered some of that stolen equipment after finding it for sale online.

Officers arrested a man, who police said showed up with the stolen property.

Smithville police said they found a thief trying to sell stolen park equipment on Facebook Marketplace.

Officers recovered one table that was stolen from Emerald Ridge Park in Smithville. Police Chief Jason Lockridge believes the other table they recovered came from a different city in the metro area.

There’s now an overhang with no tables underneath where people can it and eat sandwiches or parents and watch the kids play at the park.
