“I was praying to God, please save me, get me out of this already,” said Rom Braslavski, a 21-year-old Israeli hostage who endured two years of captivity in Gaza, where he says he was subjected to sexual violence and daily beatings.

Braslavski, who was kidnapped from the Nova music festival on October 7, 2023, is the first male hostage to publicly allege sexual abuse by Palestinian militants.

In an interview with Channel 13’s Hazinor programme, excerpts of which were shared with the news agency Reuters, Braslavski recounted being stripped naked, tied up, and assaulted by one of his captors. “It was sexual violence, and its main purpose was humiliation. Its goal was to humiliate me, to crush my dignity,” he said, holding back tears.
