LEWISBURG, WV (WVNS) - Greenbrier Valley Medical Center will be changing status from acute care to a critical access hospital in 2026.

The change will help financially, which administrators say in turn will help the community. Critical Access Hospitals receive a higher level of reimbursement for their services.

Rebecca Harris, the CEO, says these changes are long term, but may not even be recognizable by patients.

“We look to really expand our outpatient offerings. We're getting ready to build a building that's 15,000 square feet. That's going to be a medical staff office building where we can offer specialists state of the art care there," said Harris.
