LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington’s police union is suing the city government and the police department.

The FOP is accusing the department of punishing an officer without explanation.

Their lawsuit says the officer was put on leave, stripping them of their credentials last month.

The lawsuit says that level of punishment should only be used as a last resort before suspending or firing someone.

the union also says the officer isn’t currently facing a formal complaint or a court case... and claims the department isn’t following state law.

they want a judge to pause the investigation into the officer involved until the department complies with the law.
