TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - A new website allows Tucson community members to donate food and hygiene products directly to neighbors in need as SNAP recipients work with reduced benefits.
Community Care Drive , described as “Meals on Wheels meets Nextdoor,” gives people the opportunity to request food assistance and allows neighbors to respond with donations.
The website was created by Stephanie Joyce and launched about a week ago, just ahead of cuts and delays to November SNAP benefits.
Ally May, a member of Community Care Tucson , said the mutual aid organization has seen nearly 200 people at each of their community picnics for the past month, lining up hours before they start handing out food.
