MERCED, Calif. (KFSN) -- This holiday season, the Merced Police Department is urging residents to protect themselves from porch pirates.

Officers say there are a few simple steps you can take to keep packages safe, along with installing cameras in visible spots around your home...

The department says requiring a signature for all deliveries can help prevent theft and that it's also important to track and ensure the valuables you are set to receive.

If your package is stolen, report it to the carrier and local police immediately, saving any video and photos as evidence.
